Expected: Space Mission

Hubert Leyendeckers, Bo Stokkermans & Tramaine de Senna

The exhibition Space Mission takes you on a journey into outer space. Don't expect black holes, but rather colorful and organic contemporary art. Hubert Leyendeckers, Bo Stokkermans, and Tramaine de Senna explore the space of the possible. In a dazzling way, the artists combine materials, color, and form. Their work is not only beautiful to look at, but it also stimulates your imagination. Let yourself be inspired!

Discover space with the background sounds of the first electronic music by Ton Dissevelt, Dick Raaijmakers, and Henk Badings. They created this music in the legendary Natlab (Physics Laboratory) of Philips during the years when Hubert Leyendeckers began his career as an artist.

Colorful Artists

Hubert Leyendeckers
Hubert Leyendeckers from Breda (Weert, 1935 – Breda, 2023) was a versatile artist who painted, drew, welded, and worked with wood, steel, and concrete. He created an extensive body of work in which the cosmos is central. In Space Mission, a selection of his drawings is on display. With these, he practiced his intuition and imagination on a daily basis. Some of his drawings served as the foundation for large circular paintings, three of which are visible upon entering the museum. His drawings prove how imagination can portray the unimaginable.

Bo Stokkermans
Artist Bo Stokkermans (Tilburg, 1995) trained at St. Joost School of Art & Design in Breda. He does not work from specific themes, but like Leyendeckers, he creates unimaginable worlds. In 2024, Stokkermans received the Young Artist Grant from the KLEIO Foundation. This is a wonderful award for his work and development. We will hear a lot more from him in the future.

Tramaine de Senna
Tramaine de Senna (San Francisco, 1981) also studied in Breda. She creates impressive sculptures from her studio in Antwerp. Her inspiration comes from consumer and pop culture—ranging from pompously inflated objects to refined souvenir kitsch. One of her works can be admired temporarily in our foyer as soon as you enter.
