In May 2023, the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) awarded a four-year grant for research on the Nassaus in Breda in the period 1400-1567. In-depth scientific research into the period of the first Nassaus has not taken place before.
Three projects are involved: a four-year doctoral study, a working group of specialists working on a publication, and research on Hendrik III of Nassaus and Mencia de Mendoza that will result in an exhibition in Stedelijk Museum Breda. The research team includes medieval history specialists such as Dr. Mario Damen of the University of Amsterdam and Professor Arnoud-Jan Bijsterveld of Tilburg University and Monique Rakhorst, MA, curator of Ancient Art and History at Stedelijk Museum Breda.
