Since 1996, Léanne van Deurzen has been creating costumes for musicals, theater, ballet and opera, among others. Her studio Coupe de Théâtre is known for the extravagant and colorful clothing for the TV show The Masked Singer.
At the museum repository, Van Deurzen studied historical costumes. For this design, she drew inspiration from the Zouave uniform and the three-piece walking costume. Do you recognize any other garments and accessories in it?
Jan Taminiau was born and raised in Goirle, Brabant. After studying fashion design at ArtEZ in Arnhem, he founded his label JANTAMINIAU. Since then, the fashion designer has had the privilege of dressing many celebrities, including Queen Máxima, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga.
Taminiau is known for his love of traditions, craftsmanship and fabrics with a history. Elements of 19th-century fashion, such as fabric crafting, can also be seen in his work. "Every pattern, color and detail in the design has a story," he says.
This wedding dress is the final piece of l'Image Tranquille: a haute-couture collection inspired by Taminiau's nostalgic memories of the marble motifs of antique books and statues in his grandmother's attic. Every stitching and detail exudes craft and love. The wedding dress in cream silk with embroidery is a stunning example.
In 2019, Barbara van den Bogaard is founding the international storytelling organization Global Storytellers. As a filmmaker, journalist and enthusiastic storyteller, her mission is to awaken the art of storytelling as well as listening in others.
For the exhibition, Van den Bogaard spoke to four residents of Breda with different backgrounds. Mrs. De Calonne-Smit (98 years old), Elly Hoed (68 years old), Tawfeek Akkad (37 years old) and Melissa van de Lisdonk (52 years old) tell candidly about the garment they cherish. Their personal stories show how the textile carries with it memories of family members and special events.
